There are some recent changes in the suspension of operating privileges for drivers convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs for Pennsylvania residents.

For violations which occurred after August 25, 2017 a person may be permitted to obtain an ignition interlock limited license. A person whose license is suspended for twelve months for driving under the influence of alcohol may be permitted to obtain a special limited license after serving only six months of the original one year suspension. Of course they would have to have an ignition interlock placed on the vehicle at the time their operators license is restored.

A person who had a second offense of driving under the influence conviction would normally have an eighteen month suspension. With the new ignition interlock limited license that person could begin driving after serving nine months of their original suspension.
